The Mill Pond area contains the essence of historic Richmond Hill. The many heritage homes with their unique plaques show that this was a thriving community in the 1800's. The Mill Pond itself has historic significance to the community. Today it is a centre for family fun, but in the 1800's the pond itself provided the power for a local sawmill that employed many residents.

 

Located just north of Major Mackenzie and Yonge streets, the area is home to York Central Hospital, as well as Hill Richmond Hill Centre for the Performing ArtsHouse Hospice, a three bed residential end of life care facility that provides its' services free to the community. The central library is located nearby, and the new Centre for the Performing Arts brings internationally known entertainment to town for all to enjoy. The McConaghy Seniors Centre has many recreational activities available to residents 55 and older. A large number of volunteer positions are available at the seniors' centre, hospital and hospice.

 

Mill Pond Richmond HillThe entire Richmond Hill community comes out to enjoy pastimes in this area. The actual Mill Pond Park with its' playground and walking/bike trails is a centre for relaxed family fun. For over 40 years the Mill Pond has hosted a Winter Carnival on the first week-end in February. Outdoor fun for everyone is provided, including music, pancake breakfasts, skating, hockey matches and special events.

In the summer for the past 35 years weekly music concerts are held here. A wide variety of music is featured- something for everyone's tastes. Barbecue treats for an informal dinner are available with the proceed going to support the concert series.

Of the 65 detached homes sold 32 were 2 story and 16 were bungalows. The average house sold for $579,890 (99.3% of ask) after an average of 27 days on the market. The lowest sold price was $348,000, and the highest was $1,070,000.

 

TRANSPORTATION:

Mill Pond Richmond Hill, York Region TransitYork Region Transit (YRT) provides public transportation to the Mill Pond area. Route 83/83A provides service Monday through Saturday. The route travels from Major Mackenzie and Trench along Mill St. to Bathurst and along Wright St. to Yonge St.

EDUCATION:

Public schools serving the area include Pleasantville Public School which has implemented and

Alexander Mackenzie High School, 300 Major Mackenzi Dr. W. Richmond Hill all day kindergarten program) ,O.M. MacKillop Public School and Alexander Mackenzie High School. The schools in the area have demonstrated excellent results on the E.Q.A.O. Standardized testing.

 

Catholic Schools serving the Mill Pond Area are the same as those for Heritage Estates, a nearby area. They are St. Mary Immaculate Catholic Elementary School which provides classes for kindergarten to grade 8 and St. Teresa of Lisieux High School on Shaftsbury Ave.

Many of the private schools in the area provide both elementary and secondary education to their students. Some of the local private schools include: Holy Trinity SchoolTMS Toronto Montessori SchoolsThe Country Day School ,The Kaveh Academy.

Places Of Worship:


Richmond Hill, with its' wonderful ethnic mosaic has places of worship of varied types. There are many Catholic and Protestant Churches slightly south on Yonge Street. Jewish Synagogues are located off Bathurst Street and Bayview Avenue near by. Two Hindu Temples are located near by one at Elgin Mills Road and Bayview Avenue and the other at Hwy 7 and Yonge St. There is a Muslim Mosque is located a short drive away on Jane Street in north Maple.
